This is the start of my 8th year teaching. I spent the first 3 years teaching 2nd grade on the Aleutian Chain in Alaska, but then the 6th grade teacher of 20+ years retired. When you have a masters in math, and the other option for teaching 6th is a sobbing 8 months pregnant lower elementary teacher who feels very strongly about not teaching the upper grades there isn't much discussion about sticking around in 2nd grade. So I packed up my favorite supplies, left the rest behind for the next 2nd grade teacher, and headed on to upper elementary. Since then I have discovered that when you're the last stop on the elementary train no one ever really leaves. They may in theory move on to jr high, which is right down the hall in our building, but as soon as the 3:00 bell rings they're all right back in 6th grade wanting help with their math or a quite place to do their homework. So I also do a lot of jr. high and high school math tutoring on the side.
I believe in adapting to meet the needs of my students, so my style is constantly changing depending on my kids.

The daughter of two bush teachers, I grew up in a fly in village in Alaska, and we'd go visit our family in the lower 48 people thought we were from Russia because the name of our town sounded so strange to the. Apparently, I speak wonderful English.
