TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have experience as an intern at the Indiana Historical Bureau (IHB) doing historical marker research in addition to developing educational resources and strategies for teachers to implement utilizing the IHB resources. Additionally, I am a 4th year high school teacher teaching in a high poverty, semi-urban area. I piloted the credit recovery program at my first school, which I got up and running while working with a group of educators from the same corporation to design a new public school to reach at-risk kids who were falling through the cracks of the public education system at the other high school in the district (where I began teaching and where I piloted the credit recovery program). I now teach at that new school, which is in its second year of existence. At the new school, we are working to revolutionize public education by providing as many comprehensive services (even beyond the field of education) as we can and by allowing students to self-pace when possible. We really try to individualize instruction for every child recognizing that each child comes to school with a variety of different experiences that are totally different than the experiences of the child next to them. I am the student government sponsor, the prom coordinator, the Club Physique (health and fitness club) sponsor, and also the Invisible Children/Schools for Schools coordinator for my school. I am also in the last year of my Master's Degree working on my thesis and will graduate with an M.S. in Urban Education in May 2013.
