TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Wanting to experience a variety of field before going back to school I first worked in a preschool/kindergarten as an assistant and floating Spanish teacher. After working at a therapeutic day school for students with special needs as a paraprofessional I went on to get my teaching certificate. I have been teaching 8th grade science for 10 years. I am on the Science Curriculum Committee at my district as well as a member of a writing cadre to create new resources aligned to NGSS.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in problems solving as a life mantra, and that is how I teach. Students are always investigating the topic at hand. I believe in multiple means of representation for our students, as well as multiple ways for them to express their knowledge.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My original major was geology and archaeology but I became more fascinated with contemporary groups of people and learning structures. I earned my bachelors in liberal arts and sciences at the University of Illinois with a focus on socio-political anthropology. I received my teaching certificate from North Eastern Illinois University and continued to earn a Masters degree in Curriculum Design with an endorsement in ESL.
