TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught 11 years of kindergarten, 1 year of first grade and 1 year of second grade. I am now teaching kindergarten again and hope to stay here for a while!!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach in VA using the state SOLs. I use the workshop model for most of my content areas. During math, students are engaged with learning stations while I teach guided math. During language arts time, we dig deep into books using the Fountas and Pinnel Classroom resources and Guided Reading. It's one of my favorite parts of the day. During writer's workshop, I use Lucy Caukins model and help students become authors and illustrators.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Taught 10 years in my county

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I went to Longwood University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with a teaching license in K-6.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love spending time with my husband, our daughter who is 9, our son who is 3 and our 2 boxers. We own a nonprofit in Richmond, VA called Love of Learning. We provide literacy opportunities for underserved kids in Central Virginia and give them books to build their at home libraries. www.loveoflearningrva.org
