I am in my 17th year of teaching and still loving it on most days! I have taught in both primary and intermediate grades. I also have over ten years of experience mentoring teacher candidates at SDSU and National University. I have conducted several presentations about how to be an effective sub for pre-service teachers.
Firm, fun, and fair. I have high expectations and believe behavior management is crucial. Explain your expectations. Show how to do it. Practice it...often. FOR EVERYTHING!!! Then, demand it in a loving way.
Other than being San Diego County Volunteer of the month for the work I do with foster youth, I was invited to present for the San Diego Reading Association, Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in education, and San Diego State's Summer Reading and Language Arts Conference--huge honors in my mind!
I went to SDSU for my BA. Earned an additional certificate in Linguistics during my undergraduate work. I have a masters from National University, and after joining CCTE (California Council on Teacher Education) I am feeling motivated to go back to school.
