TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My experience ranges from Head Start through college. Most of my experience fluxuated between 3rd & 4th grades (my favorite). I participated in setting up the 1st High School Special Education program in this district. While in 3rd grade, I wrote and developed a "Travelmate" program for my students in order to teach them geography. Each students brought their favorite "teddy bear" to school in preparation for their journey. With their parents, we made backpacks that included a diary to record their experiences. After a grand "send off", we welcomed the weary travelers back 6 months later. I also served as a teacher union president for 3 years in one of the largest school districts in my state.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I definitely believe in being "team" player. My colleagues and I often bounced around ideas to enhance classroom learning. Success in our individual classroom were often shared with other teachers. Students were encouraged to ask questions and to seek answers and/or solutions. This led to many creative writing projects in which the local newspapers were invited to report details of their writings in their newspapers.
