For the past three years, I have been the 7th grade English Language Arts instructor at a public, selective admission school in Greater New Orleans. Designated as an Advanced Studies Academy, our school focuses on enrichment and building college and career readiness for all students.
Ask any of my current or former students and they'll all summarize my teaching style in two words: "Work Diligently." My classes are rigorous, yet rewarding. Each day, we strive to master our objective as individuals and as a team Clarity is king. I create easy to understand, minimalist guided notes to keep students engaged. Writing is often misunderstood as a "hard" or "boring" thing to teach and learn. My lessons are designed to make students proficient writers, which allows them to find their personal voice.

At the University of Georgia, I obtained bachelors degrees in Journalism and English with a Creative Writing Emphasis. While in Athens, I worked at the college radio station, undergrad literary magazine, and with numerous other local publications. I moved to New Orleans after college and held many different jobs, from copy writer to reading tutor to candy maker. In 2015, I completed TNTP's TeachNOLA alternative certification program, which was 6 weeks of student teaching and accelerated coursework. I am now fully certified in Secondary English Language Arts, and Secondary Science (pending)
Outside of school, I am an avid gardener and dog lover. I take every chance to ride my bicycle around the city to explore new parks and restaurants.
