I have been teaching elementary school students since 2000. Having taught students from across grade levels and abilities, the experience has provide me with a holistic perspective when I design my lessons so that students from different starting points have a chance to benefit from the instruction. Since 2009 till now, I am the Head of Department of Science at my school. Being part of the administrative team in a Singapore school does not mean I stop teaching. Besides my departmental work, I still teach 2 classes of Science as well as a class of Mathematics. Currently, I am part of a new school and is developing its environment-based Science curriculum.
I am a strong believer in the use of Inquiry in teaching. Students should be given opportunities to rediscover concepts and ideas through activities and experiences. At the same time, I am cognisant of the value of more explicit instruction and will do so whenever it can be more effective.
I have presented at the Singapore International Science Teachers' Conference in 2012 on the use of ICT in the teaching of Science. In April 2016, I will be presenting at the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) on Beginning Science Teachers' Conceptions of Inquiry.
I joined teaching straight after getting a Bachelors of Science (Chemistry in 2000). I got my Post-graduate Diploma in Education in 2002, and my Master in Curriculum and Teaching in 2014.
I am happily married to my lovely wife. We live in sunny Singapore with our pet rabbit.
