TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Six years teaching in Central Alberta Public Schools; English Language Arts Curriculum, Resource and Exam Development; Diploma Exam Analysis Resource Development; Student Individual Program Plan Development; Alberta Initiative for School Development (AISI-5), school representative; Division Wide Professional Development, school representative.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My objectives as a teacher are to provide students with the fundamental content of the courses I teach in a way that makes that knowledge, and related skills, accessible to students in a life-applicable manner. But beyond the specific academic objectives, there are life skills that the educational environment allows me to foster. I believe in providing a positive and respectful atmosphere for students in the classroom. I believe in producing a creative and interactive environment where students learn to independently and collaboratively interact with texts and resulting conversations. I believe in fostering critical thinking and application of ideas to life situations. I believe in facilitating the acquisition of life-long learning strategies. I believe in preparing students to successfully navigate a world that demands thought, decision making and responsibility.
