I have been teaching since 1993. I currently teach reading and writing to 4th and 5th grade students. I have taught bilingual, regular monolingual classes, and gifted and talented classes in urban school districts. At this moment we will be following a new model called Project Child. CHILD is a three-dimensional model that differs from the one-dimensional traditional model designed around a single teacher in a single grade. Three teachers form cluster teams -one teacher for reading, one for writing, and one for mathematics. Cluster teams work across three grade levels. Teachers work with the same students for three years. I will be in a cluster working across only two grade levels.
I love focusing on the three T's: Thinking, Technology, and Teamwork! "After studying how a host of companies do their hiring, they conclude that memorizing spelling lists and math tables doesn’t make a young person employable. When it comes to succeeding on the job, initiative, flexibility and teamwork belong right up there with reading , writing and math. By pushing the "hard" skills alone, many of today’s schools continue to educate children for an economy that no longer exits."
