I have taught high school English for nearly thirty years, have two semesters teaching at the community college level, and over twenty years teaching high school yearbook journalism. In addition, I also worked an an independent yearbook representative owning my own company for three years. Currently, I am an Instructional Coach, working with teachers at two high schools to implement common core state standards, the new teacher evaluation system, and student-centered instructional strategies.
I love to see students collaborating and working toward their own discoveries. The best compliment I ever received from students was that I had made them think. Teaching yearbook, a production-oriented class with student editors leading the class, changed my philosophy of classroom instruction long ago, and showed me the power of engaging students in ways that make them "own their work" and be excited about seeing their published.
