I am current third grade teachers with experience in second grade, as well as middle school ESL. I work in a Title I school where free breakfast and lunch is given to 100% of our students. Our school is diverse racially and economically. Our school adopts just about anything thrown its way - we are Arts Integrated, One-to-One Technology (iPads for every student), eat breakfast in the classroom, and send people to Ron Clark Academy :)
I believe there is a balance between creativity and structure - without both, true learning suffocates. Imagination, creation, and passion are woven into our teaching, but structure underlies everything we do as we believe that our kids feel unsafe without it. I strive to create a classroom where kindness and respect is predictable, but fun learning opportunities are not!
In 2015-16 I was part of my district's "Exemplar Reading Teacher Cohort". This means I was on a team of fifteen teachers, district-wide, whose classrooms were used as examples for teachers and principals to come watch reading lessons. I am the leadership representative for my grade level, and have led professional development at teaching events.
I have a masters in Teacher Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where I graduated from the Urban Multicultural Cohort. I also have an ESL add-on.
