TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have worked as a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist for 15 years. My first experience was in a school for students with Autism which focused on re-entry of the students into the student's home school. My remaining years have been focused on students from 6th grade through 18 years of age. These students have been a range of abilities including intellectual disabilities, apraxia, AAC, cochlear implants, ED, Autism, Multiple Disabilities, Language Impairment, Speech Impairment, and OHI. Much of my focus has been on career exposure and job skills for student's successful employment post-secondary.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am relaxed and positive in my teaching style. I prefer to be as silent as possible when working with students. My philosophy is to fade prompts as quickly as possible and use as few verbal prompts as possible. I focus on impeding behaviors as well as the target skills. My goal with my students is to educate them on their strengths and struggles to give them the skills to advocate for their needs as early as possible in their lives. This gives them the motivation to address it in addition to their teachers addressing their skill areas.
