Lara Wakefield, PhD, CCC-SLP has over 20 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist and parent advocate. She works in collaboration with Kelly Ott, MHS, MEd, CCC-SLP, who has over 20 years of experience as a therapist, administrator, and regular educator. Together, Lara and Kelly co-create various products based on the SMARTER strategy to make the IEP process less frustrating. SMARTER = Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Research-based, Teachable with cues/strategies, Evaluated and communicated to parents, and Relevant to the general education curriculum.
Lara and Kelly believe that the IEP process can be streamlined in order to make goal development easier by using a template and model examples. This will reduce stress and save time for IEP teams.
Lara and Kelly have presented their SMARTER IEP strategies nationally on speechpathology.com and ASHA conventions.
