I have taught elementary school for ten years in two districts with high English Learner populations. I have been team lead at three different schools and most recently was in the common core cohort for my district, receiving two years of intensive training to help prepare my school for the coming change.
Let the students do the bulk of the work, the book "Never Work Harder Than Your Students" is my mantra! I strongly believe in a classroom based on mutual respect, and enforcing routines and a positive learning atmosphere early on (especially in the area of group work and leadership) in order to lead to the students being enthusiastic about their work, confident in the ability to try new things and make mistakes, and plan and follow through with ideas.
