I consider myself a educational veteran at this point :) I have 15 years experience teaching, with the last 13 years as a 6th grade Social Studies teacher in south Texas. I taught ESL in South Korea for two years too!
My lessons are always highly engaging and as interactive as possible. I love to create Social Studies material that is fun and instills a love of knowledge in my students. I always follow a 5-E format (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) to make sure my students are involved in their learning.
- Winner of the "Commitment to Learning Excellence" award in my district - Voted "favorite" teacher and class by my students :) - Nominated as Teacher of the Year
I graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas with concentrations in Anthropology and Spanish. In college I spent a year abroad. I am a Semester at Sea alumna- I literally sailed around the world on a floating university while studying the cultures and places we visited. I was just as awesome as it sounds :) I also spent a semester with the School for International training where I lived with and studied the indigenous peoples in Chile.
I have wanderlust... I have now visited 26 countries and can't wait for the next adventure! I try to integrate those experiences into my lessons to bring the world to life for my students!
