TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Starting as a Professional Figure Skating and Hockey Power and Edge Coach in 1998 working with skaters of all walks of life. Having several students that were involved with the Special Olympics. In 2008, I was asked to be the Assistant Venue Director and assist in the planning and execution of the Special Olympics Winter World Games. At the time I was very excited to be part of this team and happy to make the dreams come true of hundreds of athletes. When the athletes arrived I finally realized that this was going to be the most rewarding position I have ever had. During the two weeks when I was surrounded by these special kids, working 14 hour days and was continually energized by them. After that experience, I realized that I wanted to work in Special Education full-time. In 2011, I attended Austin Community College and received the ParaEducation Institute “Highly Qualified” Certificate and the Special Education ParaEducation “Highly Qualified” Certificate. August of 2011, I began my position as a Special Education Employment and Transitional Specialist/Job Coach with Leander ISD at Vista Ridge High School. I was assigned to work with students age from 15 to 21, with disabilities ranging from severe Autism, Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Intellectually disabled, and “at risk” for drop out. While assisted them with social skills, employment skills, and life skills, I used tools such as social stories, Adult Employment Profile Tools for goal mapping, visual goal posters, relaxation tools, online employment skill assessments and True Colors interest profiles. This past year was full of great success assisting five of our students in transition to our S.E.L.F. (sustained, education, life, fulfillment program) at Leander ISD, where they will continue educational and adult employment services. During this school year, I assisted in providing support to eight seniors, in line to graduate this year, in our work-based learning program. This assistance ranged from training to maintain current paid employment, applications for housing, food stamps, and insurance. I also helped these students make clear decisions that affected their lives and future. My Goals: Assisting students in helping them realize and achieve personal goals, and future employment options with patience a positive attitude.
