TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught 4th-8th grade reading to students of low income families, specialized in 5th grade social studies for 4 years at a STEM Academy, have taught 5th grade language arts and science at the STEM Academy, and have taught 4th grade (all academic areas).

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have always held my students to high standards and treated them almost like adults. My lessons are very rigorous and emphasize the importance of critical thinking. My students have always shown wonderful growth throughout the year. Most of my students come in not liking social studies or math and end up loving it by the end of the year. I think it's very important to teach to what I believe the students SHOULD learn. I make sure that my lessons encompass Common Core State Standards, but also go beyond that. I want my students to learn WHY events have happened in history and truly develop an understanding of each concept beyond just the facts. We explore all levels of each new concept I teach, not just the surface level. I love witnessing that "lightbulb" moment when things come full circle in our lessons!
