I've worked in many capacities. Computer Tots teacher, Special Educator, Middle School teacher, & Drug Rehab Program for teens.
I believe teaching with empathy, humor, and a caring nature is very important. The kids need to know that a teacher cares about them. This can easily be accomplished by just talking to them, either as a class or individually. One needs to be able to joke with them and laugh at oneself, that way they know you are human. In addition to this, it is important to vary the types of activities done in the classroom. This can be accomplished by having the class work in groups, doing hands-on activities, computer quests, writing and acting in plays, seeing movies, playing games, etc. Since there are many learning styles, I tried to utilize most of them. Visuals for the visual learner, Oral activities, hands on experiences, etc.
