I have enjoyed careers as an elementary teacher, music teacher and a homeschool/cyberschool mom, not to mention an exciting career as a paralegal. Then, I switched careers again, this time in the role of Mom to a talented, smart, and beautiful son. In high school he was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and spent the next three years, homeschooled/cyberschooled. During this time, I took all the skills I had acquired, both educational and legal, opened my music publishing company, and threw myself into writing, recording and publishing songs for children, including curriculum-based vocal/choral music. Many of my son's old teachers and music teachers told me they had a hard time finding affordable songs for certain topics, so I accommodated their need and wrote songs on subjects such as bullying prevention, tolerance and acceptance, being authentic and true to who you are, nature conservation, self esteem and motivation. I also wrote , one fun song about going to a new school and some of the worries and excitement that goes along with that process. When I am able, I do travel to work with schools that have licensed my songs, in order to help the music teacher with the various harmony parts, should the teacher wish to use them.
I am a big fan of the Kodaly method of music education, and use it often when working with children both in the classroom, and in the recording studio. I also work with children to make sure that they understand the importance of the song topics they are singing, and help them bring emotion to these songs. I try to impress upon children and teachers that they have a chance to reach others with these songs and messages, and hopefully help repair the world, as well as support their core curriculum.
