I have taught for 14 years in three different countries. There are so many similarities in education around the world. Kids want to learn and they want to feel special. It is our job to make sure these things happen.
My teaching style has changed slightly over the years, however my attitude about knowing the whole child has remained consent. It is important to really know children in order to be effective educators. Where do they come from, who makes up their family, what is their past experience at school? Once a relationship is established with a student and their parents I am then able to work with that child and build a solid foundation.
Yet to be added
When I was in elementary school I would sit in class and imagine myself as he teacher and imagine how I would teach/conduct a class and lessons. I distinctly remember saying "If I were the teacher I would do it this way". I never had teachers who really cared about all their students and who really knew them so my motivation is based on personal history. In university I studied social work which also centers the child at the core of the work. While I was studying social work I had the opportunity to work in a grade 4 classroom. And there began my love affair with the classroom. I completed my social work degree and continued on to study education.
I am living and working in Asia with my wonderful husband and our two young boys. I have recently changed grades and will be teaching grade 5 next year.
