Taught life skills and autism self-contained classes, in-home parent trainer, and district behavior/autism specialist..
Computer-based typing programs represent the base of this store. I truly feel the use of training and practice in controlled environments such as multimedia/computer-based work stations can be extremely effective for teaching children with autism. These multi-sensory interactions allow children with Autism the opportunity to train and practice various skills. These typing programs teach keyboarding, mousing, reading, spelling, and drawing connections between speech, text, visual representations and actual concrete objects. Not to mention the potential to build much needed executive functioning (organizational) skills. In addition to, increasing their linguist cognitive development these typing programs can be used to transfer their knowledge to the natural classroom environment. Teachers can then develop or introduce a wide range of additional educational activities based on the knowledge and skills acquired through the students ongoing computer-based work.
