TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Worked in a few print shops as a graphic artist prior to teaching. 14 years of CPS elementary teaching/sub-teaching experience, mostly in primary schools as a Library-media and Art 'pull-out' teacher. Also tutored over 10 years: Reading, Writing, Math and Art in several after-school programs, including WyzAnt tutoring.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Mostly a 'hands-on' Visual presenter, more suited for small group settings vs. full clasroom teaching. While I like a multi-sensory and multidiscipline learning environment, I also believe'' that basic core skills can and should be introduced wth creative, yet simplistically-designed curriculum that minimizes complexity.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

- Teacher of the Month (April, 2003) at G. Leland Primary School. - Numerous Teacher Certificates of Appreciation - 'Most detailed Tutor' award(2005) with Firmamn after school ARC 2 (NC.L.B. program). Also designed their ARC ii T-shirt Logo. - 92-93% Satisfactory Rating with WyzAnt Tutors (P/T since 2009) - Honorable Mention Certificate from World of Poetry (4-12-1990) for a Poem entitled: 'Trav-lin, Something my Mother Taught' - Designed, entered an Edison Nation Invention contest (up to step 4 of 7, 2011) 'Dual-sided touch tablet' used for interactive tutoring.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

- America Academy of Art (1 yr.) - University of Texas at Arlington (2 yrs. undergrad.) - Transfered, graduated from Chicago State U.( Elem Ed)

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

While attending the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) for 2 years taking social sciences and linguistics courses, his heart began moving towards becoming an elementary teacher, before transferring to Chicago Stat, graduating with a BA degree and an Illinois Elementary Teachers Certificate. He sub-taught a few years in CPS schools, took additional courses at CSU and became a Library-media and Art teacher at 2 CPS primary schools. He's also volunteered in several Christian churches' children-related programs. While teaching, Steve was continually designing creative lesson plans and art projects, where his interests in art, writing and educational design coalesced. "If I had to do it over, I'd prefer to have pursued a Curriculum Design path, but for some creative people, like myself, it took years to find and develop my interdisciplinary niche." He's now taking a number of unfinished, mostly primary level designed projects, transforming them into fun learning worksheet materials.
