I am in my 22nd year of teaching Spanish for Spanish speakers at the high school level. During this time, I noticed I was re-writing my students' writing practices as opposed to correcting them so I began creating lessons that focussed specifically on those common mistakes my students were making in an effort to improve their vocabulary.
My teaching style is to help my students identify what they know in English and help them transition their knowledge into Spanish. I always introduce the rule or main idea for the lesson in English ( to activate prior knowledge) and guide my students into making a connection from English to Spanish. I use lessons with many cognates to help students transition from English to Spanish.
