I use TPR-S, scholar-centered instruction to put the learning on my scholars. Every lesson follows a two-day cycle. Day 1: introduce new vocabulary, tell story, guided notes for new grammar, oral practice activities. Day 2: re-read story, translate into English, identify vocabulary and grammar in context; group activity to organize/work with story in context; test prep activity (reading, writing, speaking, visual).
