Taught 22 Years as a Bilingual and Dual Language Teacher in Elementary Schools and 8 years as a Spanish Teacher at the High School Level. Currently assisting as an Interventionist at Middle and High schools helping new comer students learn English and keep learning in the content areas. I work with my colleague to show teachers how to integrate technology into the primary classroom. www.leeconangel.com is our Spanish Reading program online and app for iPads/iPhones.
Good teaching practices like: Sheltered instruction, guided instruction, technology as a tool rather than a focus are what I like to use. I prefer face-to-face interaction with students to help them realize their own potential. I see myself as more of a guide on the side rather than a sage on the stage kind of teacher. After all, we want students to be life-long learners, and teachers can't always be there, we have to learn how to learn.
Retired in 2012 after 30 years of teaching but have started an Educational Technology Company and now work with New Arrival Students in my community. Bilingual Teacher of the Year representative Houston ISD, 1990.
As a native Houstonian, I attended schools in Spring Branch ISD and graduated from the University of Houston with degree in Elem. Education with a Bilingual Endorsement. I wanted to teach Bilingual students so that I could help students who were learning English as a second language and continue to improve my Spanish.
I have been married to Glenn, my supportive, fun-loving husband for 37 years. We have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. We currently enjoy being empty nesters and hope to do more travelling in the near future. I enjoy gardening, reading, writing, crafts, sewing and decorating.
