TEACHING EXPERIENCE

8 years teaching in a severe and profound classroom that serves students with autism and other behavior-related disorders. ABA, VB, DDT, and TEACCH training. Member of the Autism Problem Solving Team for Johnston County, NC. Last year served as a Curriculum Specialist in Johnston County.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I incorporate the concepts and guidelines for Rigorous Curriculum Design by Larry Ainsworth. I believe all students, regardless of their abilities, should be taught at the highest level possible to help them grow and stretch beyond what they thought they could do.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

New Teacher of the Year nominee 2007 Top 20 Finalist for Teacher of the Year, Johnston County 2009, 2013 Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Month 2013

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from North Carolina School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. I then graduated from Western Carolina with a masters in severe and profound education in 2009.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I happily practiced veterinary medicine until my son was diagnosed with autism in 1999. I quickly realized I would need a career that gave me more flexibility to meet the needs of both my children. I entered the classroom, and realized I was truly home. My daughter keeps me grounded and reminds me everyday to have fun and keep swimming.
