TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching full-time for 25 years as a special education teacher, and have taught grades 1 - 8. I taught in primary self-contained ED, cross-cat intermediate self-contained, co-taught middle school in all subject areas, and last position as a Language Arts/Math self-contained middle school classes. In the middle of my teaching experience I was an Education Diagnostician, where I took great pride in assisted teachers with individual instruction, modifications, strategies, and behavior management.

MY TEACHING STYLE

"Teach by example," by overseeing and directing my students how to do things. And encouraging my students to observe and emulate. As the year goes on I try to more to more of a facilitator teaching style. Guiding my students by asking questions, exploring options, giving suggestions, and encourage decision making. Over the years I have had to be a mix of the two styles pending on my students needs.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have taught special education for over 25 years, across all settings (co-taught and self-contained) mostly in middle school, and spent years being an Educational Diagnostician. Recently, I was given the opportunity to step out of the classroom, and take on new adventures. I am now able to speak out on the best interest of children as a child advocate, start my own business as a private tutor/standardized test prep, and create resources for teachers to help their students soar. Even though I am no longer in the classroom setting; I share will others my many years of strategies from the classroom, what I'm working on, and essential strategies and examples of teaching from resourceful professionals in the field of education. You can also find me on Instagram @specialteachingcabinet, Twitter @SPedTCabinet, and Pinterest @specialteachingcabinet for even more special education ideas. I love being able to share my ideas and materials with other teachers!
