TEACHING EXPERIENCE

(Dawn Danilov) has been a special education teacher for 29 years. She has taught students with autism at the elementary level for the past 21 years and continues to do so. She has served on many committees and has taught professional development courses on Discrete Trial Format, Behavior Management, Autism,101, Autism for Para-Professionals, and MAPS. (Jo Linn Fack) I recently retired after working over 20 years as a para-educator. I worked along side Dawn for over 14 years helping to provide resources so that all our students could reach their full potential.

MY TEACHING STYLE

(Dawn) My teaching reflects the individual needs of my students. I am very thorough making sure that they have fully mastered the skills necessary to move to the next level, no matter how long it takes. The time we have to teach our students with special needs is precious; I don't want to waste their time having to re-teach something just because I pushed them through the first time. I incorporate sensory breaks to help the students maintain attention to task. The students have access to a swing, mini-trampoline, bungee chair, Ergo Seat, and rocker chair in my classroom to help them maintain on task behavior. (Jo Linn) I believe anyone can learn if provided with the resources they need. No matter what the students special needs are I want to help give them the opportunity to grow and build on their strengths.
