Welcome to "Speech Geek!" I'm so glad you stopped by. My store is based on the idea that there is a little bit of "geekiness" in all of us. Part of what makes a great SLP might be considered a bit "geeky:" the ability to analyze, research, and problem solve. The other part is the ability to take all the "geekiness" and give it a little "sparkle," magically merging it with enthusiasm, creativity, and compassion to give our students/clients the best therapy possible. My hope is that you find exactly what you're looking for to make your speech therapy sessions effective, efficient.....and absolutely fantastic! I've worked in both public and private school settings for over a decade (wow...how did that happen?). Most of my work has been with elementary students, though I've seen students from preschool through 8th grade throughout the years. My favorite area of therapy is articulation/phonology. I just love the look on my students' faces when they say their name right for the first time...isn't that just the best?!
I love learning, and I love to inspire learning in my students and help get them excited about taking responsibility for their own speech and language growth. (I guess that's part of my "geekiness!") In the store, you'll see lots of activities incorporating photographs. In my experience, students have a higher interest in and connect better to real-world images. I also try to incorporate words that children use with higher frequency (even if it means there is no perfectly pretty picture to illustrate it). Within the activities, look for a "ladder" icon to indicate ways to scaffold the activity, and a "house" icon to indicate suggestions for home practice. Let me know if there are specific activities you'd like to see in the store. I'd love your input!
