TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hi - I'm Keri Vandongen, R.SLP, S-LP (c), an Alberta registered (R.) and Canadian certified (c) speech-language pathologist (S-LP). My professional experience is extensive for working with children diagnosed with a wide variety of communication and related disorders, and providing adult educator services. I have 20 years of specialized clinical training and experience. During my rewarding career, I have supervised many speech-language pathology students & assistants. I am the founder of www.myspeechparty.com, where I help kids with fun, online speech-language practice. Through Speech Party, I provide support and educational help for parents and other adults who practice speech with kids. My original passion is co-owning a private practice. It’s a SW Calgary resource for comprehensive and personalized SLP screenings, assessment & treatment for children with speech, language, fluency, communication and/or social skills needs.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My family-centered approach welcomes parents and caretakers to talk, laugh and play along with our “star” clients during our engaging sessions. These family members and significant others learn ways to make speech-language practice more fun for generalizing success at home and in the community. Siblings delight in joining in the vibrant, play-based communication activities, and acting as role-models who shine at using SLP strategies and influencing my “star” clients to attend and participate fully, thus maximizing their progress. My “star” clients enjoy their sessions even more when I incorporate effective strategies recommended by occupational therapists, physical therapists, behavioural consultants and psychologists into communication games and activities. To carry speech-language fun and success into preschool classrooms, I enjoy collaborating with teachers and assistants to enhance children’s communication, pre-literacy, academic & social success.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am the founder of Speech Party where my special interest is helping children with fun, online speech-language practice. I write scripts, create videos and develop coloring activities as innovative products for children to practice their speech-language skills with. Filming these videos requires me to be incredibly engaging to sustain children’s attention and to entice them to take their communication turns with me. Through Speech Party, I also provide support and educational help for parents and other adults who practice speech with children.
