Hi! I love creating fun and effective speech therapy activities that will help you manage those crazy caseloads with less planning time! I’m a huge fan of materials that address multiple goals at once making your mixed groups easier and addressing the needs of your diverse learners. I'm an ASHA certified, school-based speech-language pathologist. with over 21 years experience serving preschool through 4th grade, heavy on the preschoolers!. l also stay busy providing PRN therapy with adults in hospital and outpatient rehabilitation settings.
I believe in multi-sensory teaching techniques, the use of relatable, curriculum-based themes, and activities to make learning memorable and lasting. My focus with young students is on using children’s literature, rhymes, and themes to develop awesome language, literacy, and articulation skills. I love hands-on, naturalistic, interactive activities. With my littles, we sing, dance, engage in crafts and sensory activities, explore wonderful books, and learn about the world as we develop our speech and language skills!
Honors of the Speech and Language Department at UNT, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, Teacher of the Year, Innovative Teaching Educational Grant Recipient. My therapy activities and blog posts have been featured in the ASHA Leader. I've been honored to be a speaker at the TSHA conference and present professional training to SLP's and teachers on speech and language topics. My blog has been selected as one of the top 100 websites for SLP's.
I earned my MS in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of North Texas. I completed advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech with Dr. Edythe Strand and completed the TEACHH Hand in Hand Program.
I come from a long family tradition of teaching, so of course, I had to be different and became an SLP! I especially love my preschool model: a 2-hour, twice-weekly large group speech therapy program, designed to provide intensive intervention to young children with speech and language disorders, with an emphasis on early literacy skills. We have circle time, centers, art activities, table activities, and 1:1 individual instruction.
