Hi! Welcome to Speech Sprouts, Thank you for stopping by! I have loved being a school-based speech language pathologist working with elementary students for 18 years serving preschool through 4th grade, and junior high students as well. I provide therapy services to a wide range of learners, from students with articulation delays only, to PPCD, self-contained and life skills classrooms. Approximately a third of my caseload are preschoolers, many of whom participate in my intensive, literacy-based preschool program developed by myself and a colleague. (See more about this below!) l also enjoy providing speech therapy to adults after school in hospital and outpatient rehabilitation settings with diagnoses of aphasia, swallowing and voice disorders, dysarthria, apraxia and cognitive-linguistic deficits.
I believe in multi-sensory teaching techniques and the use of relatable, curriculum-based themes and activities to make learning memorable and lasting. My focus with my young students is on using wonderful children’s literature and rhymes to develop awesome language, literacy and articulation skills. I love hands-on, naturalistic, interactive activities. We sing, we dance, engage in crafts and sensory activities, explore wonderful books and learn about the world as we develop our speech and language skills!
Honors of the UNT Speech and Language Department, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, Teacher of the Year, Innovative Teaching Educational Grant Recipient, Therapy Activity Feature in the ASHA Leader, Speaker at the TSHA conference, my blog has been selected as one of the top 100 websites for SLP's.
BA in Psychology and MS in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of North Texas. I believe that in order to best serve my students, a clinician never stops learning. I have completed advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech with Dr. Edythe Strand and completed the TEACHH Hand in Hand Program.
I come from a family with a long line of teachers, and am glad to follow the family tradition of supporting education by providing speech therapy to preschool and elementary children. In addition to offering traditional speech therapy to students from Early Childhood to 4th grade, I currently teach a two hour, twice-weekly group speech therapy pre-school program designed to provide intensive intervention to young children with speech and language disorders, with an emphasis on early literacy skills. We have circletime, centers, art activities, table activities and individual instruction. I love to create products that target multiple goals, can be differentiated for various learners, and can be used across a large portion of the caseload. This helps me as a busy SLP, to pull one pack and be ready for multiple sessions! My materials are appropriate for small group or classroom settings like my pre-k group. I use these materials in my own therapy room and hope that you will enjoy them in yours.
