I have been a speech-language pathologist for 24 years, most of those years spent in the public schools. For the last 4 years I've spent the majority of my time in preschool which is my love. Other loves include technology, AAC and social skills!
It has been a proud tradition at my preschool for each student to have a "speech book". We use composition notebooks. At the beginning of each year each student gets a new speech book. On the first page or inside cover we tape/glue in a current photo of the child. Next we add a personal information sheet that includes his or her name, age, number of siblings, pets and the teacher's name. Each speech session something new gets added to the speech book. Sometimes I add a note to the parent about the focus of the lesson if I feel it isn't clearly represented by the activity. Parents also use the notebook for questions or comments. Students use the notebook at home for practice. By the end of the year, the speech book is nearly full of activities that the student has completed throughout the year. The kids love looking back at what they have learned!
