I am now in my 7th year of primary school teaching and have taught a vast range of grades, ability types and socio-economic groups of children. I started my career as a health teacher teaching children about nutrition, wellbeing and health. I then moved into a classroom teacher position with a grade 5 class. In my third year of teaching I decided to embark on an outback journey and complete my country service in a mining town 11 hours North of my home in Brisbane. There I taught prep/1, grade 2, 3/4 and a 4/5 class. Being away from my tight knit family and friends was a challenge for me but after completing a total of four years out west I landed myself an amazing position in an inner city school, 6km from my front door in Brisbane. I am now teaching grade 2 and really enjoy that age group. As well as teaching full time, I have decided to pursue my passion in nutrition and wellbeing by also studying a Bachelor of Nutritional Medicine, which I am loving. I hope one day to combine the both and improve the nutritional education that children are receiving.
My teaching style is structured but with the option for the students to take control of their own learning at the same time. My pedagogy is following a high impact teaching model. This is also known as "I Do", "We Do", "You Do", when there is a gradual release of responsibility and support of the students throughout the lesson. I find this explicit teaching model helps to engrain the skill, idea or topic into the students' minds and gives them confidence to succeed in the lesson.
Yet to be added
I completed my entire schooling (grade 1-12) in Brisbane, then moving onto University where I completed my 4 year degree in Primary education. I am now completing a degree in nutritional medicine as a personal goal/passion of mine.
I am an energetic, clean eating, fit and fun teacher. I believe that I have a well balanced life, mind and spirit where I ensure that I give equal time to all of the important things in life such as family, friends, myself, my work and my passions. This relaxed and confident nature I try to instil in my students everyday.
