I have been a bilingual (Spanish) special education teacher in an inner city school district since 2005. My students are all English language learners, mostly from Puerto Rico. I deliver instruction in both English and Spanish.
I believe that even the youngest of students can learn to be accountable for their own learning. I try to foster independence and encourage students to take risks. I use humor and can be rather theatrical to show students that it's ok to put yourself out there.
Nothing formal! :-)
I graduated from my undergraduate program in 2005, with a degree in childhood education, special education, and Spanish. In 2007, I completed my B.A. in multicultural/bilingual education. In 2011, I gained certification in early childhood education.
I am passionate about helping my students acquire English, while continuing to nurture their growth in their native language, Spanish. I have seen how doors have been opened for me as bilingual person, and I hope to provide my students with the same amazing opportunities!
