TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught high school Spanish for 14 years. I have taught all levels of Spanish, including Dual Credit courses for a local university. I currently teach levels 1 and 2 and am LOVING IT! I seriously enjoy working with Novice level students!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach Spanish focusing on proficiency and communication. I use some traditional instruction, but focus on engaging students in communicating with the language. I utilize a lot Comprehensible Input and work on ways to improve utilizing more target language in the classroom. I use short cultural readings once a week, all in target language, in addition to a weekly cultural observation and discussion. I also teach in a Blended Learning Classroom, so I continuously seek ways to incorporate flipped lessons and engage the students through technology.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a BSBA in Marketing from the University of Missouri. I also have degrees in Spanish and Secondary Education. My MA is in Romance Languages and Literature. I studied in Guadalajara, Mexico (undergraduate) and Zacatecas, Mexico (graduate). I back packed through Europe twice. I have traveled with students (through Language and Friendship-a wonderful travel company!) many times to Spain. We visit Madrid, Segovia, Toledo, Sevilla, Granada, and Barcelona.
