My native language is Spanish Have been teaching for 40+ years Have taught middle school, high school, and college levels of Spanish and ESOL I am a certified ACTFL Oral Proficiency Assessor
I have always wanted my students to feel comfortable in my classes so they can take chances and speak the language I am teaching. I find that students learn more effectively when the atmosphere is exciting and student-centered. My activities complement the curriculum and allow my students to learn from their own experiences, from their colleauges, and also from me. Making activities that target a level slightly above my students' present level of understanding and proficiency allows them to be successful and confident as they improve their skills.
I am a certified ACTFL Oral Proficiency Assessor I have taught three levels of education (middle school, high school, university). I was selected to be involved in textbook writing and revision. I was selected to be part of a CT initiative to assess our state's world language students.
I earned a BA in teaching Spanish 6-12 and 6-12 Mathematics. I earned a MS in bilingual education. I earned a 6th year in Educational Administration I have been teaching for over 40 years. I have been the primary supervisor and evaluator of 35 grades 6-12 world language teachers in a DRG A school district.
My parents came to the USA from Cuba in the 1940"s and worked all their adult lives here. My first language was Spanish and did not learn English until I entered elementary school. The love for my first language brought me to the realization that I wanted to be a Spanish teacher. I have dedicated my professional life to showing my students and teachers the beauty and importance of Spanish in our lives.
