I have been teaching high school Spanish for 11 years - all levels and grade levels. Additionally, I teach a Project Based Learning class called Senior Independent Project where students spend a year working with a mentor in the real-world while following a passion that they have, culminating in a final project that will somehow better the community. I travel to Spain a few times a year and have hit almost all of the Comunidades Autónomas and Latin America, I lived in Madrid for 5 summers and Sevilla for almost 1 year.
Connecting with students and showing them that Spanish goes much beyond the 4 walls of my classroom is my passion! I enjoy showing them that the grammar and the vocabulary are just tools for communication and I encourage them to ask questions about the language, hoping that these questions lead them to really understand the language as opposed to simply memorizing. I give the students autonomy in the learning process in my classroom with the hopes that they will continue to take Spanish into college and that they will choose to travel abroad. I also am very interested in project based learning and began teaching a Senior Independent Project Course where students will gain real-world skills and knowledge through researching their passion and eventually culminating into a project with a community giveback component!
