TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching high school Spanish since 1999. I began my teaching career on the border in Arizona but after two years I tapped the heels of my ruby slippers three times and moved back home to Indiana. I currently teach Spanish II-V but also have taught Spanish I in the past.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love integrating "real world" projects and activities in my classroom. In the end, I want my students to actually use Spanish outside of the classroom without my help so it's good to get them involved in activities that require them to apply Spanish to their interests, daily lives, and futures. I am a firm believer in mastery learning. We learn a concept and we take a quiz on it and I require 80% for mastery. If students don't get mastery, they are required to retake till they do. Because of this, I know that my students are prepared for assessments and will be able to apply the concepts when it is asked of them. It really requires a lot of organization but it pays off in the long run. I have been developing this style for the past few years and have seen tremendous growth in my students' achievement.
