I have been in education for 21 years. I have certifications in Texas for: Elementary - Self Contained K-8, English 8-12, and Educational Diagnostician. I was an Educational Diagnostician for 10 years, have taught Special Education, High School English, Honors English, and am now teaching Middle School ELA Writing grades 6 and 7.
My approach to teaching is the student centered inquiry-based learning. I've come a long way "baby." I made such a sudden shift from the teacher centered approach that I'm quite sure I got whiplash. But, "If the mountain won't come to Muhammad...," as they say. I spend a great deal of time presenting the material in such a way that it requires students to ask and act in order to achieve a goal. However, there are times that the teacher centered approach is necessary.
I served as President of our local Texas Educational Diagnostician Association and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2015.
I received my Degree in English and my Master's Degree in Education, Special from The University of Texas at the Permian Basin, summa cum laude.
I am a mother of two and grandmother of three. My husband and I enjoy camping. My hobbies include sewing, knitting, working with cowhide and, evidently, creating activities for my students -- that one takes most of my free time.
