11 year veteran teacher embarking on a new adventure as a third grade teacher. I spent 5 years in 4th grade and 5 years in Technology as part of the enrichment team. I begged to return to the classroom and have often question my sanity. LOL! I sporadically blog at www.stace-hunt.blogspot.com
I see the value of both teacher-centered and learner-centered environments. My school pushes for learner-centered, but my own daughter is being homeschooled in the Classics. I like and use both and view both as beneficial to learning. Oh, and if LOUD and FUN was a teaching style, I'd probably pick that one. :) My teaching style: ~My teaching is guided by instructional strategies that help learners make meaning. ~My learning environment is supportive and cooperative. ~I change assessment technique according to the lesson objectives. ~When I ask learners questions, their answers typically require them to provide justification. (My response was adapted from the language in the Behar-Horenstein (2006) survey because I like their verbiage).
Teacher of the Year 2010-2011
In 2000, I received a BA in English (minor in Russian) from the University of Texas at Arlington. Afterwards, my husband and I published a local music magazine. Then I thought I wanted to be a chef so I went to work in a kitchen and realized my skin wasn't thick enough...literally and emotionally. So, I worked in the cheese department while finishing up my teaching certification from Tarleton State University.
Like many educators, I am more than "just" a teacher. I am a WIFE of 14 years, MOM to 3 boys and 1 girl, Gigi to a superhero and a princess, Volunteer @ www.Lifechurch.tv, oily (YLEO Member #1488680) and exhausted! LOL:)
