I am in my 17th year of teaching and in that time I've taught from third grade to eighth grade. I've taught on many different levels as well. I have also taught many different types children, from the most impoverished to those in upper middle class homes. I have learned that there are many different resources necessary to teach all these different types of children.
My style of teaching, hmmm, good question. I like to present my students with information that leads them to explore this information through projects or writing activities. Give them the ownership they need to really connect with their learning. This is my goal each day. All of my products are Student Tested & Approved!
Most recently, I was named "Teacher of the Year" for my school and currently in the running for the district "Teacher of the Year" competition. In May, 2012 I was awarded my school district's "Above and Beyond" award, for doing just as it is titled, going above and beyond for my students everyday. I have also been nominated several times for "Teacher of the Year" at my current school twice and two other times when I worked in another school district. In July 2005 I was selected to attend the Phil Mickelson/Exxon Mobil Teacher Academy for Math & Science. It was a great experience, giving me many resources and ideas for teaching math and science.
I have a BS in Elementary Education from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, LA. I am certified to teach all subjects in grades 1-8 and in the spring I will begin an add on certification for Library Science Education.
I am married with no kids, but do enjoy my time with my nieces and nephews. I also enjoy my four legged children and they are very independent.
