I have been teaching for 14 years. I began my career in early elementary, but found my true calling in middle level ELA. I have spent 12 years with 7th and 8th grade students. I specialize in working with reading intervention, teaching grade-level ELA to students who read well below grade level.
My students call my teaching style "crazy". In our class, we don't sit still for more than 15 minutes at a time. We use flexible seating, inquiry-based lessons, and as many motivational techniques as I can find. Having students who have spent the first 12 years of their lives struggling to get by in school, many of them are on the verge of giving up. I use my ELA standards to teach life skills like work ethic, perseverance, interpersonal skills, and integrity.
