TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am in my 14th year of teaching and have grown so much over the years. I have wanted to teach since I could talk- at least that's what my parents tell me! I truly feel blessed to be teaching- doing what I love and getting paid for it too! I student taught at 2nd and then have taught 3-6th grades. I am currently teaching my 9th year of 5th grade. This is a great level- the kids are getting wise to the ways of the world and are so curious! They are eager to learn and explore as well as ready to become more responsible for their learning and engagement. Aside from my student teach at 2n grade, all of my teaching experience comes from Title 1 school, generally with very low SES as well as high-needs behaviorally. I have a passion for these students- often times school is their stable place and I believe that it's here where they can truly find who they are from within- their education is something no one can ever take from them- they get to own it, no one else.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I'm straight forward with my students and am a strong believer in accountability. I have implemented many AVID strategies into my classroom in order to eliminate the potential for 'messy desks' and lost items. I run a classroom economy of sorts that holds the children responsible for their classroom environment and helps them take pride in their space. One of my mottos is 'every student, every day.' This means that every child should expect to be a part of the 'conversation' (lessons and discussions) every day- I use classroom sticks to draw names, all the time! I am also entering my second year as a PYP (Primary Years Program) teacher. I work very hard, with a great mentor, to further implement the aspects of PYP into my teaching and the students learning every day.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My entire early education took place in the Beaverton School District in Beaverton, Oregon I spent 2 years at San Jose State University and moved home to finish my B.A. in Education from Concordia University in Portland. I finished certified to teacher PreK-8th grades. I completed my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University in July of 2014
