ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Why "Station Eight"? - When I was an undergraduate student, newly married, and expecting our first child, my future as a professional in any field seemed so out of reach. I had completed a few education courses and student taught at an elementary school, but I knew early on the classroom was not for me. The kids, yes. The classroom, no. During this time my husband was stationed at fire station 8 in Waco, TX. I have positive memories of the (what could have been) heavy conversations about what I wanted to do with my life. Station 8 was comfortable and stable. It was clean and predictable. Most importantly, it was safe. These are the feelings I want students to have about their educational setting. I want conversations to happen openly and growth to be something to look forward to.
