I studied percussion at UNC here in Colorado. Being a music major can a bit stressful. After college I took up steel drums and never looked back. Within a couple years I had purchased 5 sets of drums and started Rocky Mountain Steel Bands. I've taught hundreds of kids, teens and adults how to play steel drums.
I'm very laid back. I believe music should be fun and enjoyable.
You don't get a special award for being a private teacher but I am super proud of all my students. For some, I am so proud that they are making slow, steady progress. Others challenge me in their skill levels. Of course, one of the coolest things is when you begin competing for gigs with one of your students! I have 8 former students who are now full time musicians themselves which is just awesome.
I've played music for most of my life, almost 30 years. Went to college at UNC in Colorado and have studied with many folks but won't bore you with names.
After college I began playing steel drums and I immediately knew where my new passion was. I started Rocky Mountain Steel Bands (RMSB) in 2003 and have now taught hundreds of folks how to play steel drums. In 2016 we moved into our new, 2300 square foot studio and are expanding our offerings like ukulele, hand drumming, music theory, and more.
