TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught grades 8-12 Social Studies, English and Psychology for 21 years. I also work in teacher education at a local university teaching a Social Studies methods course. I'm a writer and presenter for the Critical Thinking Consortium (tc2.ca), a Vancouver based non-profit that promotes thinking in the classroom. While I'm enjoying these other adventures, my heart is in the classroom with teenagers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

The foundation of my practice is relationships of care and trust with my students. I strive to create a thinking classroom where we question everything. I love Socratic Seminars and meaningful projects. I frame most of my units as critical challenges of some kind.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

2013 - Winner of the Canadian Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor of Arts - History major, Psychology Minor Master of Arts - Curriculum Theory and Development - Thesis on portfolio assessment.
