TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Together we have over 20 years of teaching experience. Amy and Ed both changed careers to become high school teachers in some of Chicago's neediest schools. In addition, Ed has also taught at one of the best high school in Illinois. Before the leap into teaching, Amy was a manager at a large advertising firm and Ed just started his post-doctoral studies in molecular neuroscience.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Though we were in different departments, Amy was an English teacher and Ed was a science teacher, we developed cross curricular lessons that integrated science books with reading, writing, and hands on science experiments.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Amy has a National Board Certification in Adolescence and Young Adulthood/English Language Arts. Ed has a National Board Certification in Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Science Amy is the recipient of the prestigious Oppenheimer Family Foundation Teacher Incentive Grant for seven years in a row.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Amy has a B.A. in Journalism from University of Kansas, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Design from North Park University and M.Ed. in Educational Literacy: K-12 Reading Specialist from Northeastern University. Ed has a B.S. in Biology and Psychology with Honors from University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Northwestern University.
