I most frequently teach 10th grade World History and 11th US History, but have also taught 8th grade US History, APUSH, Medieval History to a mixed class of 9th-12th, 6th and 9th grade World Geography, and 7th grade Texas History.
Dynamic!!! Out of the textbook!!! I am constantly moving, constantly interacting with students, and when my students work in groups or individually delve deeper into the material, I burst with excitement when I see them "get it" or enjoy the given project. I love having students work collaboratively and try not to repeat assignment/project types/styles per semester. It is a challenge that keeps me on my toes and helps keep the students engaged and not bored. I also LOVE giving students the history that textbooks don't necessarily focus on or go deeply into, and I always try to give them a glimpse of everyday life for what we are studying and make it relevant so my students stay interested.
Some of my most rewarding moments in the classroom include students saying, "I didn't like history until you taught it to me," when the student who had been silent for months answered a question with college level eloquence and knowledge, and when parents would tell me that the most they heard about their child's school day was what was going on and being discussed in my class.
I have both a Masters and Bachelors from Tulane University. My MA is in US History. My thesis was about America's Role During the Holocaust. I graduated with a BA Cum Laude in European History, Political Science, and Classics. I received my teaching certification from McKendree University.
My passion for teaching and history is at times overwhelming, but in the best way. I am constantly thinking of new activities to bring into my classroom and new ways to challenge my students and myself. I love teaching, I love history, and I want to share activities my students have loved with other teachers.
